Case Study of Uninsured Drivers

Drivers in Texas are required to carry basic liability car insurance coverage. The law requires motorists to provide evidence of financial responsibility. Texas drivers must carry liability insurance that provides $30,000 worth of coverage for each injured person, up to $60,000 per accident. Also, drivers must carry limits of $25,000 for property damage which covers damages to other's vehicles/property in the event of an accident.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, approximately 80% of drivers in Texas carry the minimum amount of coverage at the very least. On the contrary, 20% of the driving population does not carry insurance at all.

If you are hit by an uninsured driver and you only have liability coverage then you will not be able to get your car repaired after the accident unless you pay out of pocket.

Also, if the accident results in any medical bills, you will have to pay those bills yourself or put your credit at risk. Getting hit by a driver with no insurance can be a hassle, but it is something you can protect yourself against.
